Bio
Dakota Ross-Cabrera is a M.A. student in the Sociology Department at Columbia University. She was Fulbright grantee to La Rioja, Spain, and a past CUNY Journalism Knight Fellow. Her research interests include race and ethnicity, inequality, and the sociology of education. Dakota holds a B.A. in American Studies from Columbia University during which she developed investigative research skills via internships in journalism. Dakota has written for USA Today, The Columbia Spectator, The Georgetown Dish, and interned for CNN. During her Fulbright year, Dakota taught English in seven rural communities in Northern Spain. Her current M.A. Thesis examines young Dominican-American identity via qualitative analysis. She examines how this racial and ethnic identity formation changes via interactions with different social institutions as well as programs for students of color.
