Research Interests

Bio

My areas of interest include how non-democratic regimes, specifically in post-Soviet countries, use gender and sexuality to reinforce their power in a global arena. My current research uses media analysis, focus groups, surveys, and interviews to explore the relationship between international social processes, state politics, public opinion, and lived experience. Before coming to Columbia, I received a Master's degree at the University of Chicago, where I wrote a thesis on how children's disabilities shape family lived experiences. Before that, I worked as a qualitative researcher at the Department of Sociocultural Analysis at the Levada Center, the largest independent social research organization in Moscow, Russia.
