Emma's main research interests are education inequality and social classes reproduction in the modern Chinese society. During the program, she interviewed education consultants who now provide specific services for wealthy students and students who attended prestigious schools. The rise of education brokerage services reflects the extensive interests that Chinese students have expressed in getting into overseas prestigious schools, and how the deeply meritocracy-driven conceptualization of success is rooted in contemporary popular life in China.
