Bio

Jacey is an MA student in the Department of Sociology at Columbia. Her research interest centers on gender and sexuality, queer studies, identity formation, and the impact of identities on social interaction. Her current thesis research focuses on the interactions of identities-- mainly gender, sexuality, and race-- on experiences in New York City's lesbian bars, understanding how the bars function as safe spaces (or not), and the tension between inclusion and exclusion in these spaces.

Prior to attending Columbia University, Jacey received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in Sociology with a minor in LGBTQ/Queer studies. While at UT Austin, she worked as a research assistant at the Texas PRIDE Health Collaborative at Dell Medical School. There, she researched long-acting PrEP use and accessibility for transgender and gender-expansive Texans, which resulted in one publication, "Intention to Use Different Formulations of Longer Acting HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Transgender and Gender Expansive Individuals: The Roles of Social Vulnerability and Medical Mistrust."
