Biographical Note
Ivy Tang is an MA student in the Department of Sociology. She is broadly interested in immigration, social network analysis, and identity formation. Currently, using an intersectional approach, Ivy’s research explores the factors that may explain why older working women in China are more at risk of experiencing mental health issues compared to their male counterparts. Specifically, she examines how occupational roles—compounded by intergenerational relationships and gender norms—shape the emotional well-being of older working women in China. Prior to attending Columbia, she graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College, with a major in Sociology and minor in Japanese.
