Bio
Sam Maves is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology at Columbia University. His research interests center around neighborhoods, inequality, and how people experience place beyond their residential communities. His work aims to understand how individuals respond to the geographic distribution of resources and opportunity through their everyday travel.
Before starting his graduate studies, Sam worked at MDRC, a social policy research nonprofit, where he studied factors influencing access to high-quality early childhood education. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and hails from Lansing, Michigan.
