Biographical Note
Before returning to campus, Xiaonan worked as a journalist and senior editor for more than a decade in Beijing and New York. She covered international relations before turning to social issues in 2019, with a focus on women and gender. During her time at Global Times, CGTN, and The Economist Intelligence Unit, numerous reporting trips to China's remote locales allowed her to deeply understand the hidden forces driving social change and tell stories in an objective, nuanced, and humane manner. Her work has won awards from the New York Festivals and the China Journalism Award, among others. Her current research focuses on the evolving dynamics of gender and power.
