Bio
Yanze Yu is a Ph.D. student and Paul F. Lazarsfeld Fellow in the Department of Sociology at Columbia University. He also serves as a research fellow at The Trust Collaboratory. Yanze’s research interests lie at the intersection of medicine, science and technology studies, and political economy, with a broad focus on the social processes of medicalization and pharmaceuticalization. Currently, he is investigating the institutional disparities, particularly in terms of professional associations, between Tic Disorders and ADHD in China. His previous research examined the embodied experiences and illness narratives of individuals affected by tics in China. Yanze holds a M.A. in Chinese Studies from the University of Michigan, where he also earned a Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology, and Society. He completed his LL.B. in Sociology at Fudan University, where he was honored as a Wang-Dao Scholar. Embracing life as both a New Yorker and a new Shanghainese, Yanze takes pride in his roots in Michigan and Fujian.
