Bio

Claire Corsten (she/her) is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at Columbia University. Her research examines how individuals narrate experiences of sickness and recovery, drawing on medical sociology, the sociology of knowledge and expertise, and narrative inquiry. She is particularly interested in how illness narratives are shaped by digital contexts, cultural scripts, and relationships to institutionalized care.

Prior to pursuing her doctoral degree, Claire worked as a Senior Program Analyst at The Fortune Society, a New York City nonprofit serving individuals transitioning from incarceration. She holds an M.A. in Sociology and a B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from McGill University.
