Biographical Note
Maxwell Cyan Lurken-Tvrdik is a PhD student in the Sociology Department at Columbia University. His research explores the relations of culture and structure, individual cognition and social cohesion, and the narratives which redefine identities. His work strives to understand how individuals perceive their positions and possibilities in the social world, find and strategize action, and imagine new beginnings.
Before graduate school, Maxwell worked in the Minnesota Governor's Office of Tribal-State Relations, agricultural construction, an ice cream shop, and a zoo. He received his BA in sociology from Columbia University.
