Biographical Note
My name is Yingzhi Chen. I am an M.A. student in Sociology at Columbia University and received my B.A. in Sociology from New York University. My research interests center on gender, inequality, and intimate and family relationships, particularly in contemporary Chinese society. I am especially interested in how gender norms, cultural expectations, and social institutions shape individual autonomy, relationship obligations, and decisions surrounding marriage and family life.
My previous research has examined women’s education in rural China, marriage and family dynamics, demographic change, and gender inequality. I have also gained research and policy experience at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China and China’s National Development and Reform Commission, where I worked on policy research, cross-national analysis, and public development projects.
