Bio

Ixchel Bosworth is a PhD student and Paul F. Lazarsfeld Fellow in the Department of Sociology at Columbia University. Her primary research interests include social inequality and urban sociology. Before joining Columbia, Ixchel worked as a special education teacher for the New York City Department of Education in the Bronx and Washington Heights. While earning her MA in Sociology from Columbia University, she investigated the impact of the school disciplinary reform initiative restorative justice on student suspension rates and school culture at three New York City public secondary schools in Brooklyn. Currently, she is interested in investigating how public education reproduces the social challenges of educational attainment and income inequality concentrated in urban communities of color.
