Professor Adam Reich receives 2026 Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award

February 22, 2026

The Faculty of Arts and Science has selected Professor Adam Reich to receive the 2026 Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award.

Established in 2005 by a gift from late Columbia University Trustee Gerry Lenfest, the Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes the excellence of Arts and Sciences faculty as teachers, scholars, and mentors within and outside the classroom. In addition to professional recognition, the award carries with it a significant stipend over a period of three years.

The award announcement cites Adam's "exemplary instruction of introductory courses in Sociology, his support and advocacy on behalf of students in curricular and extracurricular matters, his mentorship of junior faculty colleagues, his long record of service across the Arts and Sciences, and his scholarship on U.S. criminal justice systems, health care, and labor markets" as reasons for his selection.

With this award, Adam has completed a hat trick of recognition for his excellence in teaching. In January, he received the 2026 Award for Excellence and Commitment to Teaching from the Division of Social Science; and in October 2025, he received the 2025 GS Honor Society Faculty Award from the GS Honor Society. We're thrilled and honored to have such a fantastic teacher in our department!

Congratualtions, Adam!
