Prof. Mae Ngai, Lung Family Professor of Asian American Studies and Professor of History, together with Hunter College, the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), and the NYC Department of Education (DOE), will offer an intensive 4-unit Teacher Institute in Asian American studies to 25 NYC middle and high school teachers in April 2026. Teachers participating in this program will receive continuing credits to advance their instructional training and career development.
The program will feature the Hidden Voices curriculum developed by the NYC DOE, and will cover topics in history, law, communities, and arts/culture, with Prof. Ngai leading the units on community and labor. Prof. Ngai also shared with AAI that the program will feature guest lecturers, including the Hon. Denny Chin of the US Court of Appeals 2nd Circuit; Professors Vivian Louie (CUNY), and Manan Ahmed (Columbia).
“We are grateful for support from Columbia’s Asian American Initiative and the AAI’s commitment to public-facing work and community collaborations,” said Professor Ngai.
