Department members receive section awards at ASA 2026
Numerous department members are receiving section awards at the 2026 ASA meeting in August for their article submissions. If you are attending ASA (this year in NYC!), please stop by the sections' business meetings to watch our colleagues accept their awards!
Assistant Professor Tara Gonsalves is the co-winner of two awards -- the Best Scholarly Article Award from the Global and Transnational Sociology Section and the Distinguished Article Award From the Sociology of Sex and Gender Section for her paper "(Trans)National Gender Expertise and the Politics of Recognition."
PhD candidates Jon Ben-Menachem and Ari Galper are co-winners of the Clifford C. Clogg Award for Best Graduate Student Paper from the Methodology Section for their paper "Rethinking Repeatability in Observational Social Science."
PhD candidate Ludovico Genovese is the winner of two awards -- the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award from the Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section and the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award from the the Altruism, Morality, and Social Solidarity Section -- for his paper “College Majors and Cooperative Behavior: Quasi-Experimental Evidence from Sweden’s Centralized College Admission System."
PhD Candidate Hannah Pullen-Blasnik received an honorable mention for the Distinguished Student Paper Award from the Crime, Law, and Deviance Sec for her paper "To Protect and Serve Capital: Policing, Real Estate Development, and the Regulation of Invested Spaces in New York City."
Recent PhD Alumna Elizabeth Adetiba received the Ida B. Wells-Troy Duster Paper Award for Early Career Scholars, as well as an honorable mention for the Hacker-Mullins Student Paper Award, from the Science, Knowledge, and Technology Section for her paper "The Science of Blackness: Biology and Social Science in Black-Focused Scholarship, 1900–2020" (co-authored with Professor Adam Reich).
