Harriet Zuckerman (GSAS 1965), Professor Emerita of Sociology and former Senior Vice President of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, received an honorary degree from Columbia University during May's Commencement ceremony for her "innovative, path-breaking research that has helped define the field of the sociology of science."
After receiving her PhD from Columbia, Harriet served on the sociology faculty for 21 years, 4 of them as chair. She was the first woman the department hired as a regular faculty member and the first woman to get tenure. Read more about Harriet on the university's commencement site here.
