Vaughan's research on the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster highlights how the normalization of deviance in organizations allows there to be larger and larger breeches of ethical practice over time. By slowly diminishing ethical standards to accommodate profit, organizations eventually risk their reputation and the safety of others.
